The Grants Pass Intertribal Powwow Committee was formed in 1991 to keep alive Native American Culture and indigenous knowledge, wisdom and values through the sponsorship of annual cultural events. The Tilomekn Salmon Ceremony and Gathering was brought back into existence after it was forbidden to be practiced in the middle 1800's. Restoring the Salmon Ceremony and Gathering has been a crucial step in bringing native people and others together as a community to pass on traditional teachings, including respect for th environment and reciprocity. The Gathering promotes Native American culture and values through a variety of means including cutural immersion, role modeling, traditional teachings, ceremony, storytelling, elder/youth mentoring, eduational talks and experiential activities.
