As word of Leslie Brockelbank's passing has spread, people began to make donations to MRG Foundation in her name.
The MRG Board of Directors is proud to announce the creation of the Leslie Brockelbank Memorial Fund to honor Leslie's lifetime of activism and giving.
When we thought of how best to remember Leslie, we realized we didn't have to look any further than her original vision. Those who are closest to her know that she wouldn't have wanted a monument that focused on her, or a new grantmaking process that required a lot of time and energy to set up.
Leslie would have wanted us to do what we do best -- gather committed activists together to decide how the money could be used to support people who are working for social justice in their local communities. This fund will support our "grassroots grantmaking," and honor the tradition Leslie, along with Charles Gray, began thirty-three years ago.
If you would like to make a donation to the Leslie Brockelbank Memorial Fund, you can contribute online, by mail, or by phone during office hours (503-289-1517). Just let us know that it's in honor of Leslie and we'll add your name to the tribute list.
In addition to this memorial fund, there are several ways people in the MRG community are remembering and celebrating Leslie:
Of course, the best way that each of us can honor Leslie is by carrying on her vision for a just and peaceful world.
May we all be inspired by the generosity, humility, and commitment she modeled every day, and may we find ways to bring more of those qualities to our own lives and our work in the broader community.
With fond memories, MRG Board of Directors:
